Usage Note
Quebrada is common in Latin American Spanish for a narrow gorge, ravine, or the small stream running through it; in Spain the same feature is usually called a barranco. It derives from quebrar (to break). In some regions (e.g. northern Argentina, Bolivia) it also refers to the broader river valley between steep hillsides.
