Químico is both an adjective (reacción química — 'chemical reaction') and a noun (el/la químico/a — 'chemist, chemical scientist'). Do not confuse with farmacéutico ('pharmacist'). The field is la química. Stress falls on the first syllable — it is an esdrújula word.
