Usage Note
Publicado is the past participle of publicar used as an adjective (un artículo publicado = 'a published article'). As a standalone predicate it requires ser: el libro fue publicado en 2020 (passive) vs. el libro está publicado (state). Do not confuse with público (public, adjective), which has a different meaning.
