Usage Note

Protesta refers to a formal or public expression of disagreement, from a street march to a diplomatic objection. The verb is protestar (to protest, to complain). In everyday speech protesta can also mean a grumble (sin protestas, no complaints). Manifestación is the more specific term for a mass street protest.
