Usage Note
Prolongar is used for stretching something in time or space, such as a meeting, a road, or a stay. The reflexive prolongarse is common when describing something that goes on longer than expected: la reunión se prolongó hasta la noche ('the meeting dragged on until evening'). It is a regular -ar verb.
