to proceed

verb proh-seh-DEHR Less Common

Origin: from Latin procedere (to go forward)

Also means

to come from

Usage Note

Proceder means to proceed with an action (procedemos a votar — we proceed to vote) and also to originate from a place or source (procede de una familia noble). The construction no procede (it is not appropriate / it does not apply) is common in formal and legal writing. Do not confuse with procesar (to process or prosecute).
