previsión

forecast

noun preh-bee-SYOHN Less Common

Origin: From Latin praevisio, from praevidere (to foresee).

Also means

provision

Usage Note

Previsión covers both a forward-looking forecast (previsión del tiempo = weather forecast) and the act of providing in advance (previsión social = social security/provision). En previsión de means 'in anticipation of'. Do not confuse with precisión (precision/accuracy), which sounds similar and is a common false cognate error.

Literal Translation

The forecast of-the time announces rain
