Usage Note

Próximo before a noun means 'next' in a temporal series: el próximo lunes (next Monday), el próximo año (next year). After a noun or with estar it means 'nearby/close': la tienda está próxima (the shop is nearby). Unlike siguiente (which just means 'following'), próximo carries a sense of imminence — 'the one coming up soon'. In formal registers it also appears in closings: en espera de su próxima respuesta (awaiting your next reply).
