portugués

Portuguese

adjective pohr-too-GEHS Less Common

Usage Note

Portugués functions as both adjective and noun — un portugués (a Portuguese man), una portuguesa (a Portuguese woman). As a noun without an article it refers to the language: habla portugués. Note the accent on the final syllable, which drops in the feminine (portuguesa) and plural (portugueses, portuguesas) because the stress no longer needs marking.

Examples

"El portugués es un idioma hermoso."
