Aryan

noun adjective AH-ryoh Rare

Origin: Sanskrit ārya (noble); the term was misappropriated in 19th-century racial ideology

Usage Note

Ario / aria (feminine) originally referred to the Indo-Iranian peoples and their self-designation. In modern usage it is heavily associated with Nazi racial ideology and should be used with care.
