Usage Note
Portorriqueño is the traditional Spanish spelling derived from the historical name Porto Rico; the variant puertorriqueño (from the modern Puerto Rico) is now more common and is preferred by the Real Academia Española. Both forms are accepted. As a noun it also names a person from Puerto Rico. The Caribbean island's Spanish dialect is notable for weakening or dropping the s in certain positions and for aspirating r sounds in some contexts.
Examples
"Ese cantante portorriqueño es muy famoso."
