Usage Note

Plástico functions as both a noun (el plástico contamina los océanos) and an adjective (una silla plástica). The adjective sense can also mean 'expressive' or 'pictorial' (las artes plásticas, the plastic arts). When used as an adjective it follows the noun in most contexts. As a noun it is always masculine and refers to the material generically.
