Pintura covers both a painted artwork (una pintura al óleo — an oil painting) and the physical substance paint (pintura de paredes — wall paint). For a single artwork on canvas you can also use cuadro, which is more colloquial. The person who paints is pintor/pintora; the act is pintar.
