Perpetuar means to cause something to continue indefinitely, often with a negative connotation (perpetuar la injusticia, to perpetuate injustice). The reflexive perpetuarse means to entrench oneself in power. The accent falls on the u in most conjugated forms: yo perpetúo, él perpetúa.
