Usage Note
Pandereta is a small frame drum with metal jingles — the instrument most associated with Spanish folk and flamenco music, as well as with Christmas villancicos. It differs from pandero, a slightly larger or simpler variant without jingles. The diminutive suffix -eta underscores its compact size. Shaking or tapping a pandereta is one of the first percussion skills taught in Spanish folk-music classes.
