omiso
neglectful, heedless
adjective oh-MEE-soh Rare
Origin: From Latin omissus, past participle of omittere (to omit).
Usage Note
Omiso is rarely used alone in modern Spanish — it almost always appears in the fixed phrase hacer caso omiso de (to ignore, to pay no attention to). For example, hicieron caso omiso de las advertencias means 'they ignored the warnings'. Using omiso outside this set phrase sounds archaic; a learner's main task is to recognize and use hacer caso omiso.
Examples
"Hicieron caso omiso de las señales de peligro."
Natural Translation
They ignored the danger signs.
Literal Translation
They-made case neglectful of the danger signs.
