Usage Note

Olivo is the tree; aceituna or oliva is the fruit (the olive you eat). In formal or literary contexts oliva can also name the tree, but olivo is the everyday standard. The branch of the olive tree (rama de olivo) is a universal symbol of peace — ofrecer una rama de olivo means 'to extend an olive branch'.
