Usage Note
Octavilla originally referred to a sheet of paper folded into eight parts (from octava, 'eighth'). Today it denotes any small political or propaganda leaflet, especially one distributed clandestinely. In verse, it also names an eight-line stanza (octavilla italiana), a usage found mainly in literary contexts. The political sense is far more common in everyday speech.
