Usage Note
Nudo covers a knot tied in rope, a lump in the throat (un nudo en la garganta), and a narrative or dramatic node (el nudo de la trama, the central complication of a plot). It is also a unit of nautical speed — one nudo equals one nautical mile per hour — borrowed intact from the metaphor of the knot on a log-line. The plural is regular: nudos.
Examples

Natural Translation
He tied a knot in the rope to secure it.
