Niño refers to a male child; the feminine is niña. The plural niños is gender-inclusive and means 'children' when referring to a mixed group. The diminutive niñito/niñita is used affectionately. Do not confuse with niñero/niñera (babysitter). The phrase desde niño means 'since childhood.'
