nariz

nose

noun nah-REES Rare

Usage Note

Nariz is feminine, and its plural is narices (the -z→-ces rule). Informally, narices also serves as a mild expletive or emphatic intensifier in Spain: ¡narices! ('nonsense!', 'damn!'). The diminutive naricita is affectionate. Meter las narices en algo ('to stick one's nose into something') is a common idiom equivalent to English 'to pry'.

Examples

"Se le cayó la sangre por la nariz."

Natural Translation

Blood dripped from his nose.
