Usage Note
Nacionalidad can mean both the legal status of being a citizen of a country and, in Spain, a recognised 'nationality' within the state (e.g. Catalan or Basque nationality, a political term). In everyday use it answers the question ¿de qué nacionalidad eres? ('what nationality are you?'). Ciudadanía is the closer equivalent to 'citizenship' as a legal right.
Examples
"Tiene doble nacionalidad española e italiana."
Natural Translation
She has dual Spanish and Italian nationality.
