Modificación is a formal, technical synonym of cambio (change). It is common in legal, administrative, and engineering texts (modificación del contrato — contract amendment). The plural modificaciones loses the accent because stress naturally falls on the penultimate syllable. The verb modificar follows a regular -ar pattern except for the spelling change c → qu before e (modifiqué).
