meta
goal
noun MEH-tah Less Common
Origin: Latin 'meta' (turning post in a racetrack)
Also means
finish line
Usage Note
Meta is the general word for a personal or professional goal (alcanzar una meta, to reach a goal) as well as the finish line in a race. In Spanish football commentary, gol is used for a scored goal, not meta — meta stays abstract or refers to the physical line. It is feminine: la meta.
