Usage Note

Mentalidad is always feminine (la mentalidad) and ends in -dad, following the pattern of abstract nouns like libertad and ciudad. It refers to a habitual way of thinking shared by a person or group: mentalidad abierta ('open mind'), mentalidad de equipo ('team mindset'). Not to be confused with mente (the faculty of mind itself).
