Usage Note

Medio as a noun most often means 'means' or 'medium': los medios de comunicación (the media/means of communication). It also means 'half' as an adjective (medio litro — half a litre) and 'middle' (en medio de — in the middle of). The adverbial use a medias means 'halfway' or 'incompletely'. Note that medio ambiente (environment) is written as two words and is a set phrase.
