Usage Note

Marcial is invariable for gender: el arte marcial, la ley marcial. It derives from the Roman god Mars and describes things relating to war, military discipline, or combat. Artes marciales is the standard plural phrase for 'martial arts', and ley marcial is 'martial law'.
