Maquinaria is a collective noun referring to a set of machines or the mechanical workings of a system. It is feminine and has no common plural (las maquinarias is grammatically possible but rare). Metaphorically, la maquinaria del Estado ('the machinery of the state') is a standard political expression. The diminutive maquinita refers informally to a slot machine or arcade game in some Latin American countries.
