Also means
subscription, season ticket
Usage Note
Abono has two very common, unrelated senses: in agriculture it means fertiliser or compost (abono orgánico); in commerce and transport it means a prepaid subscription or multi-trip pass (abono de transporte, 'travel pass'). Both senses are standard throughout the Spanish-speaking world, so pay attention to context. The verb abonar covers 'to fertilise' and 'to pay/credit'.
Examples
"Echamos abono al jardín en primavera."
Natural Translation
We put fertiliser on the garden in spring.
