Usage Note
Mérito carries a written accent as a proparoxytone (stress on the antepenultimate syllable). Tener mérito means 'to be commendable' or 'to be praiseworthy'. The plural méritos is common in CVs and performance assessments (hacer méritos = 'to earn one's stripes').
