lyric

Usage Note

Lírico means lyrical in the poetic sense — expressing personal emotion and beauty — and is also the technical term for the lyric genre of poetry. In music, teatro lírico refers to opera and related vocal genres. In informal speech across parts of Latin America, lírico can be used humorously to mean someone who is overly idealistic or impractical, as in un plan muy lírico (a very pie-in-the-sky plan).
