llegada

arrival

noun yeh-GAH-dah Less Common

Usage Note

Llegada is the noun from llegar ('to arrive'). It is used for the arrival of people, vehicles, or seasons (la llegada del tren, la llegada del invierno). In airports and stations, llegadas (plural) is the word for the 'arrivals' board or gate. Do not confuse with venida ('coming'), which is more literary and implies someone coming toward the speaker.

Examples

"La llegada del vuelo se retrasó dos horas."

Natural Translation

The flight's arrival was delayed by two hours.

Literal Translation

The arrival of-the flight oneself delayed two hours
