librería

bookshop, bookstore

noun lee-breh-REE-ah Rare

Also means

bookcase

Usage Note

Librería is a classic false friend: it means a bookshop (or a bookcase/bookshelf), NOT a library. The word for library is biblioteca. In Spain librería overwhelmingly means a bookshop; the 'bookcase' sense is secondary. English speakers commonly make this error, and it is worth learning the contrast with biblioteca from the start.

Examples

"Compré esta novela en la librería de la plaza."

Natural Translation

I bought this novel at the bookshop on the square.
