Usage Note

Lesionado is the past participle of lesionar ('to injure') used as an adjective. It is common in sports journalism (el delantero está lesionado = 'the striker is injured'). Unlike herido ('wounded', implying external trauma or violence), lesionado tends to suggest sports or internal injuries. The noun lesión ('injury, lesion') is feminine.
