lanzar

to throw, to launch

verb lahn-SAHR Common

Usage Note

Lanzar ends in -zar, so the yo preterite is lancé (z → c before e). It covers physically throwing (lanzar una pelota) and figuratively launching a product, campaign, or attack (lanzar un producto al mercado). The reflexive lanzarse means 'to throw oneself into, to leap': se lanzó al agua ('he jumped into the water').

Examples

"Lanzó la pelota con mucha fuerza."

Natural Translation

She threw the ball with great force.
