thief

noun lah-DROHN Rare

Also means

robber

Usage Note

Ladrón is the standard word for a thief or burglar; the feminine is ladrona. The plural ladrones loses the written accent because the stress naturally falls on the penultimate syllable once -es is added. A common proverb is piensa el ladrón que todos son de su condición ('the thief thinks everyone else is a thief too').

Examples

"La policía atrapó al ladrón."

Natural Translation

The police caught the thief.
