Usage Note

Jerarquía refers to any ranked system — organizational, ecclesiastical, or social. The adjective is jerárquico/a ('hierarchical'). In Spanish the j gives the initial 'h' sound, and stress falls on the third-to-last syllable, so learners often misplace the stress.
