Usage Note

Japonés serves as both adjective and noun (el japonés = the Japanese man, el japonés = the Japanese language). The feminine form is japonesa, and the plural japoneses/japonesas. Note the accent on the final syllable — it is dropped in the plural: japonés → japoneses (the plural no longer needs the accent to mark stress, since it naturally falls on the penultimate syllable).
