japonés

Japanese

adjective hah-poh-NES Less Common

Usage Note

Japonés serves as both adjective and noun (el japonés = the Japanese man, el japonés = the Japanese language). The feminine form is japonesa, and the plural japoneses/japonesas. Note the accent on the final syllable — it is dropped in the plural: japonésjaponeses (the plural no longer needs the accent to mark stress, since it naturally falls on the penultimate syllable).

Examples

"Me encanta la cocina japonesa."
