Invención stresses the act or process of inventing, and also carries the sense of a fabricated story or lie: eso es una invención ('that's made up'). The everyday word for a specific invented device is inventoel invento más útil del siglo ('the most useful invention of the century'). Do not confuse with invencion (without accent) — the written accent is required: invención.
