Intuición is a feminine noun that refers to gut knowledge not derived from reasoning. The common phrase por intuición means 'by instinct' or 'intuitively'. The verb form intuir ('to sense, to intuit') is also widely used: intuyo que algo va mal ('I sense something is wrong'). It should not be confused with intuito, which is rarely used in modern Spanish.
