Usage Note

Internar is the standard verb for admitting someone to a hospital, psychiatric facility, or boarding school — lo internaron en el hospital (they admitted him to hospital). The reflexive internarse en means to go deep into a place (internarse en el bosque — to go deep into the forest). The related noun internado means a boarding school.
