inteligente
intelligent, clever
adjective een-teh-lee-HEN-teh Less Common
Origin: From Latin intelligens (inter + legere 'to choose between').
Usage Note
Inteligente is invariable for gender: un chico inteligente, una chica inteligente. It is a safer compliment than listo, which also means 'clever' but can imply cunning or slyness. The noun la inteligencia means 'intelligence'; the phrase inteligencia artificial ('artificial intelligence') is now widely used and abbreviated IA in Spanish (not 'AI').
Examples
"Eres la persona más inteligente que conozco."
Natural Translation
You are the most intelligent person I know.
