Inmersión is widely used in educational contexts to describe language-immersion programmes (programas de inmersión lingüística), and in diving or technical contexts for submersion underwater. The phrase en inmersión describes a submarine or diver that is submerged. Do not confuse with sumersión, which is more specifically physical sinking; inmersión covers both literal and figurative total engagement.
