inhibición

inhibition

noun een-ee-bee-SYOHN Rare

Origin: From Latin inhibitio, from inhibere (to hold in).

The plural inhibiciones is common in therapeutic contexts: superar las inhibiciones. Note that in Spanish legal language inhibición can also mean the recusal or withdrawal of a judge from a case, a meaning absent from English 'inhibition'.

Examples

"Superó sus inhibiciones con el tiempo."

Natural Translation

She overcame her inhibitions over time.
