Usage Note

Imaginar and imaginarse (reflexive) are largely interchangeable, but imaginarse is more colloquial and conveys a personal mental image (imagínate cómo fue). The imperative imagina / imagínate is very common in storytelling and conversation to invite the listener into a scenario.
