Also means
illustrated
Usage Note
Ilustrado carries the dual sense of someone who is educated and cultured, and — historically — a follower of the Ilustración (Enlightenment). El despotismo ilustrado (enlightened despotism) describes 18th-century European rulers who modernized their states while retaining absolute power. As a past participle of ilustrar it can also mean 'illustrated' (as in a book).
Examples
"Era un hombre ilustrado y de amplias lecturas."
Natural Translation
He was an enlightened man with wide reading.
