honorable

honorable

adjective oh-noh-RAH-bleh Rare

Origin: From Latin honorabilis, from honor.

Usage Note

Honorable is used both as a general adjective meaning worthy of respect or morally upright, and as a formal title of address (el Honorable señor…) for judges, legislators, and diplomats. Unlike English, where 'Honorable' before a name is a fixed protocol title, Spanish honorable can describe any person of integrity without the same ceremonial weight.

Examples

"Es un hombre honorable que cumple su palabra."

Natural Translation

He is an honorable man who keeps his word.
