Usage Note
Hipócrita functions as both an adjective and a noun (una persona hipócrita / es un hipócrita). Like iconoclasta, it is invariable by grammatical gender — both el hipócrita and la hipócrita use the same form. It is a proparoxytone (esdrújula) with the stress on the ó, which is why the written accent is required. The noun hipocresía (hypocrisy) is feminine.
