Usage Note
Heroína is a homonym covering both the female hero (la heroína de la novela) and the drug heroin. Context always disambiguates, but the double meaning can occasionally cause momentary ambiguity. The male equivalent for hero is héroe; there is no masculine equivalent for the drug sense.
